Surprise at the U23 European Cyclo-cross Championships: Jente Michels beats defending champion Emiel Verstrynge
In a surprise outcome at the U23 European Cyclo-cross Championships in Pontchâteau, Belgium, Jente Michels defeated defending champion Emiel Verstrynge to claim the title. Verstrynge had been the favorite to win the race, but Michels proved to be the stronger rider on the day.
Michels and Verstrynge were neck and neck for most of the race, but Michels made a decisive move in the final lap to pull away and secure the victory. Verstrynge finished second, and Rémi Lelandais of France rounded out the podium in third place.
The French team had a strong showing in the race, with Nathan Bommenel, Corentin Lequet, and Léo Bisiaux finishing seventh, eighth, and tenth, respectively.
