Bora-Hansgrohe has announced the signing of two new sports directors for the 2024 season: New Zealander Shane Archbold and Spaniard Patxi Vila.
Archbold, 32, is a former professional cyclist who retired from racing at the end of the 2023 season. He spent the last six years of his career with the Bora-Hansgrohe team.
Archbold will be responsible for overseeing the team’s young riders. He said, “I can pass on my experience and knowledge to the future of BORA — hansgrohe. I will work with the guys to get the best out of them.”
Vila, 48, has been a director sportif for the past 10 years, most recently with the Astana Qazaqstan Team. He has also worked for the Euskaltel-Euskadi and Movistar Team teams.
Vila said, “I am very excited to join the BORA — hansgrohe team. I have been following the team for many years and I am impressed with the work that they have done. I am confident that I can make a positive contribution to the team and help them to achieve their goals.”
The signings of Archbold and Vila are a sign of Bora-Hansgrohe’s ambition for the future. The team has a number of talented young riders, including Maximilian Schachmann, Nils Politt, and Ide Schelling. With the experience and guidance of Archbold and Vila, these riders will be hoping to challenge for major victories in the years to come.
