Sébastien Joly part ways with Groupama-FDJ

Sébastien Joly, a former rider and current Sports Director of the Groupama-FDJ cycling team, has announced in a Tweet that he will be leaving the team after nine seasons. Joly joined the team as a rider in 2006 and then moved to the technical staff in 2015. He has been a valuable member of the team, helping to develop and guide many young riders. However, he has decided that it is time for a new challenge.

Sébastien Joly Cycling History

Sébastien Joly is a French former professional road racing cyclist who competed as a professional between 2000 and 2011. In 2006, he joined the Française des Jeux (FdJ)on the UCI ProTour. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer on 25 June 2007, his 28th birthday.

He began his career in 1999 with the amateur team Chambéry Cycliste Espoir. In 2000, he joined the professional team AG2R Prévoyance. He won his first professional race, the Grand Prix de la ville de Saint-Quentin, in 2001. He also won the Tour de l’Avenir in 2002.

In 2006, Joly joined the Française des Jeux on the UCI ProTour. He won the Tour du Haut Var in 2007.

In 2008, Joly was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy and returned to racing in 2009.

In 2010, Joly won the Tour de la Manche. He also won the Tour de l’Ain in 2011. Joly retired from professional racing at the end of the 2011 season. He then joined a Cycling Management career.
