Pogacar Plots Portugal, Italy for 2024 Tour Domination
Tadej Pogacar’s 2024 Program Hints at Portugal and Italy
While Tadej Pogacar’s official 2024 schedule hasn’t been announced yet (expected during his team’s UAE Team Emirates training camp in Alicante from December 10th to 21st), we’re starting to get a glimpse of his potential early season races.
In a recent interview, Pogacar mentioned, “I will decide my program with my managers in December,” while still revealing a slight preference for a certain Grand Tour in 2024:
“For now, I’m leaning more towards the Tour de France. It’s a race I really enjoy and suits me well. I’m still young and have plenty of time for the Giro, but it’s certainly a race that appeals to me and one I would like to do in the future.”
However, it seems Portugal and Italy might be in the cards for his early season races.
Pogacar’s focus on Portugal
- Volta ao Algarve (February 15th — 19th): This stage race in southern Portugal is a popular season opener for many professional cyclists.
- Volta a Catalunya (March 19th — 25th): This UCI World Tour stage race in northeastern Spain is known for its challenging climbs and prestigious history.
Pogacar’s focus on Italy
- Tirreno-Adriatico (March 6th — 12th): This UCI World Tour stage race offers a mix of flat stages, time trials, and challenging climbs, making it a good test for Pogacar’s form before the Tour de France.
- Il Lombardia (October 6th): This prestigious one-day classic in northern Italy is known for its autumnal landscape and brutal climbs, making it a perfect way to end the season on a high note.
It’s important to note that this is just speculation based on current information. Pogacar’s official program will be announced following the UAE Team Emirates training camp in December.
