His participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics is not compromised. While the operation was initially planned to be invasive, with cardiac ablation, this procedure was ultimately not necessary to correct the arrhythmia. “Peter is doing well (…) Everything is under control,” his entourage told AFP.

During a mountain bike race in Spain, Peter Sagan experienced an abnormally high heart rate, exceeding 200 beats per minute. This was significantly higher than his usual maximum of around 190 bpm.

Concerned by the incident, especially after the recent career-ending cardiac arrest of fellow cyclist Sonny Colbrelli, Sagan sought medical attention. Subsequent tests confirmed tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) during intense activities.

To address the issue, Sagan underwent surgery in a specialized unit in Italy. Fortunately, the surgery was successful and reportedly less invasive than initially anticipated. Sagan is recovering well and his participation in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics remains on track.
