Luke Plapp to join Jayco-AlUla Pro Team
In a significant boost for the Australian cycling team, Luke Plapp has signed a four-year contract with Jayco-AlUla. The 22-year-old, who has shown immense promise in his two seasons with Ineos Grenadiers, will return home to race for the Australian outfit from 2024 onwards.

Plapp’s arrival is a major coup for Jayco-AlUla, who were eager to secure the services of one of Australia’s most promising young riders. The two-time national road race champion has already demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level, with impressive performances in the WorldTour.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Jayco-AlUla,” Plapp said. “It’s a team with a great reputation and a history of success, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that. I’m also really proud to be racing for an Australian team.”
Jayco-AlUla sports director Matt White believes that Plapp has the potential to become one of the best riders in the world. “Luke is a young rider with a lot of talent,” White said. “We believe that he has the potential to be a future Grand Tour winner, and we’re excited to help him reach his full potential.”

Luke Plapp’s Cycling Achievements
Luke Plapp is an Australian professional cyclist who has carved a niche for himself in both track and road cycling. Born in Brunswick, Victoria, in 2000, Plapp’s initial foray into cycling was more of a fitness endeavor to complement his cricket and football aspirations. However, at the age of 12, he joined his father on morning coffee rides, igniting a passion that would propel him to the pinnacle of the cycling world.
Plapp’s talent was evident early on, and he quickly rose through the ranks of junior cycling. In 2018, he marked his arrival on the international stage by capturing three medals at the UCI Junior Track World Championships, including two gold medals in the points race and the madison (with Blake Quick). His impressive performances earned him a place in the Australian national track team, where he continued to excel.
In 2019, Plapp made the transition to road cycling, and his success continued unabated. He claimed victory in the fourth stage of the Tour des Tropiques, showcasing his versatility and adaptability. The following year, he cemented his status as a rising star by winning the Australian National Under-23 Road Race Championship, demonstrating his prowess in both time trials and road races.
Plapp’s exceptional talent caught the attention of the UCI WorldTour team Ineos Grenadiers, and in 2021, he became a stagiaire for the team. His impressive performances during his apprenticeship earned him a full-time contract with Ineos Grenadiers in 2022.
Plapp’s debut season with Ineos Grenadiers was nothing short of remarkable. He made his WorldTour debut at the UAE Tour, where he played a crucial role in supporting his teammate Adam Yates, who finished second overall. Plapp’s own performance was equally noteworthy, as he secured his first WorldTour top-five finish on the final stage to Jebal Hafeet, just 16 seconds behind the winner, Tadej Pogačar.
Plapp’s crowning achievement of 2022 came at the Australian National Road Race Championships. In a thrilling display of grit and determination, he chased down James Whelan with under 10 kilometers remaining and surged ahead to claim a solo victory. This triumph solidified Plapp’s position as one of Australia’s most promising young cyclists.
In 2023, Plapp continued to showcase his exceptional talent, successfully defending his Australian National Road Race Championship title. This remarkable feat demonstrated his unwavering dedication and ability to perform under pressure.
