Lluís Mas’ uncertain future
Lluís Mas, a 34-year-old Spanish cyclist, has left the Movistar team at the end of the 2023 season. His future in the sport is uncertain, as he is still waiting for a response from a WorldTour team.
In an interview with the newspaper Marca, Mas said that he has a vision for his career, but that he is also open to other possibilities. “They have to give me an answer,” he said. “I think I have a vision for my career. For the moment, it’s not an issue, but it could be for the future.”
Mas has been a professional cyclist since 2011, and has ridden for the Movistar team since 2017. He is a versatile rider who can perform well in both the mountains and the sprints. He has won several races throughout his career, including the Vuelta a Aragón in 2018 and the Vuelta a Castilla y León in 2019.
Mas’ departure from Movistar is part of a wider shake-up of the team’s roster ahead of the 2024 season. The team has already signed several new riders, including Carlos Rodríguez from INEOS Grenadiers.
It is unclear what Mas’ next move will be. He could sign for a WorldTour team, or he could join a ProTeam or Continental team. He could also retire from professional cycling altogether.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Lluís Mas.
