Jonas Vingegaard’s Vélo d’Or award
The Jumbo-Visma team had an impressive, historic, and stratospheric season in 2023, and Jonas Vingegaard’s Vélo d’Or award is a fitting conclusion. The Vélo d’Or (French for “Golden Bicycle”), known as the “”little brother”” of the Ballon d’Or, is awarded by Vélo Magazine and has been recognized by riders since 1992.
Vingegaard was unable to attend the ceremony in Paris on Tuesday to receive his trophy, but Jumbo-Visma general manager Richard Plugge was there to represent him. Plugge said that Vingegaard “well deserves this award” and that he is “proud of what he has achieved this year.”
Vingegaard’s 2023 season was indeed remarkable. He won the Tour de France, his first Grand Tour victory, and also won the Amstel Gold Race and the Critérium du Dauphiné. He was also a key member of the Danish team that won the silver medal in the team time trial at the World Championships.
Plugge praised Vingegaard’s work ethic and dedication, and said that he is a “role model” for other riders. He also said that Vingegaard is “still young and has a lot of potential.”
Vingegaard’s Vélo d’Or award is a testament to his outstanding season and his status as one of the best cyclists in the world. He is sure to be a contender for many more awards and victories in the years to come.
