Medical examinations at the Alost hospital in Belgium revealed a fracture of the right collarbone, requiring surgery for the new Arkéa-Samsic rider. Recovery time for such injuries is typically measured in weeks.

Jan Tratnik clinched the victory at the Circuit Het Nieuwsblad

The Slovenian beat Nils Politt in a sprint1. Wout van Aert took third place. No time to catch your breath. The first classic of this 2024 season delivered a plot full of twists and turns. The morning breakaway was caught with a hundred kilometers to go. By the peloton? Not really.

A few kilometers earlier, under the impetus of Visma, the bunch of riders split in two. It was thus a group of about thirty riders who tackled the second part of the race at the front. Continuing on their momentum, Wout van Aert’s teammates accelerated to create a new selection.

The Belgian found himself in the company of Matteo Jorgenson, Christophe Laporte, Arnaud De Lie, Tom Pidcock, Toms Skujins and Gianni Moscon. The Italian gave up a few kilometers later. These six riders rode a bit of the way together.

Through attacks and strong relays, Visma tried to suffocate their opponents. And, probably thought they had succeeded. A few kilometers from the Muur van Geraardsbergen, Jorgenson went solo. The American quickly opened a gap of twenty seconds.

In the penultimate climb, the peloton got closer and Tim Wellens made the jump on the pursuers. Finally, in the Bosberg, all the stages of the race came together in one. Visma recovered fresh forces like Dylan Van Baarle or Jan Tratnik. The latter will use his freshness to his advantage.

The Slovenian attacked and was only accompanied by Nils Politt. A solid rouleur, the German did not spare his efforts. In the last kilometer, he forgot to sit up and unwittingly led his opponent.

Tratnik did not ask for more and concluded his team’s work. Behind, Wout van Aert clinched another podium spot.

Lars Van den Berg reassures after feeling unwell and crashing at Faun Ardèche Classic

There had been no news of Lars Van den Berg (Groupama-FDJ) since his big crash at the 2024 Faun Ardèche Classic on Saturday. The live images were indeed quite worrying, showing the rider lying motionless on the ground, surrounded by medical staff.

Lars Van den Berg reassures after feeling unwell and crashing at Faun Ardèche Classic

The 25-year-old rider was engaged in one of the last descents of the race when he suddenly felt unwell: “I felt unwell, which caused me to lose consciousness while cycling, resulting in a direct fall.”

This explanation from the Dutchman is reassuring, as the images had raised fears of a serious injury. Van den Berg was taken to the hospital for examinations, but nothing serious was found. He should therefore be able to resume training soon.
