Double setback in Female Cycling
Two months after her sister Senne announced her retirement from cycling following a violent crash, 20-year-old cyclist Britt Knaven has also decided to quit the sport.
Britt Knaven, a member of the Drops Cycling Team, explained her decision in a press release, saying that she had been struggling with motivation and that she no longer felt the same passion for cycling as she once did. She added that the crash suffered by her sister had also played a role in her decision, as it had made her realize how dangerous cycling could be.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, and it’s a decision I haven’t taken lightly,” Knaven said. “I’ve had a lot of success in cycling, and I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve been given. But I’m no longer feeling the same motivation and passion for the sport as I once did.
“The crash suffered by my sister also played a role in my decision. It made me realize how dangerous cycling can be, and it made me question whether I really wanted to continue taking those risks.
“I’m not sure what the future holds for me, but I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life. I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received from my family, friends, and teammates, and I wish them all the best in the future.”
Britt’s retirement is a blow to the women’s peloton, as she was one of the most promising young riders in the world. She had already achieved a number of successes at a young age, including winning a stage of the Tour de Bretagne in 2022.
However, Knaven’s decision to retire is understandable, and it is important to respect her decision. She has had a successful career in cycling, and she is now ready to start a new chapter in her life.
