Arnaud De Lie, the 20-year-old Belgian cyclist nicknamed “The Bull of Lescheret”, is looking to continue his positive momentum in 2023, where he will be highly anticipated. He has already stated that he wants to focus on the Flemish Classics, which are known for their challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions.

De Lie had a successful rookie season in 2023, winning nine races and finishing on the podium on several other occasions. He showed that he is a versatile rider, capable of winning both sprints and uphill finishes. However, he admitted that he still lacks experience in pure flat sprints, which he doesn’t particularly enjoy anyway. He prefers to sprint after a difficult and exhausting race, which is more in line with the Flemish Classics.

De Lie’s comments suggest that he is a serious contender for the Flemish Classics in 2023. He has the strength, endurance, and versatility to win any of the races. He also has the motivation and determination to succeed at the highest level.

One of De Lie’s biggest strengths is his ability to sprint after a long and difficult race. This is a key skill for the Flemish Classics, which are known for their grueling nature. De Lie also has a good amount of experience at the cobbled classics, having ridden several of them as a neo-pro in 2023.

De Lie’s biggest challenge will be to compete with the more experienced riders in the Flemish Classics. Riders like Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel, and Tom Pidcock are all world-class athletes with a proven track record in the Classics. De Lie will need to use his strengths to his advantage and race intelligently in order to beat these riders.
