The French sports retailer Decathlon is set to become a co-sponsor of the AG2R Citroën Team from 2024 onwards. The news will be officially announced at a press conference in Lille on November 27, 2023.

The UCI (International Cycling Union) prohibits a single brand from being the naming sponsor of two professional cycling teams, so Decathlon would join AG2R La Mondiale as a co-sponsor.

However, Decathlon will have a very prominent presence on the team’s jerseys, leading to speculation that the French retailer is planning to eventually take over the team altogether.

Decathlon is already a major sponsor of cycling, supporting both amateur and professional teams. The company is also a major player in the cycling equipment market, selling a wide range of bikes and accessories.

A partnership between Decathlon and AG2R would be a major coup for both parties. Decathlon would gain access to a top-level WorldTour team, while AG2R would gain the financial support of one of the world’s largest sporting goods retailers.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the AG2R Citroën Team, but the arrival of Decathlon as a co-sponsor is a significant development.
