2023 UCI World Cycling Championships in Glasgow
The 2023 UCI World Cycling Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, were a huge success, breaking audience records both on television and online.
According to the UCI, 200 million hours of coverage were watched on television worldwide over the 11 days of competition, an increase of 78% over a standard year. In Europe, the audience reached 80 million, or one in seven Europeans.
The UCI attributes the record-breaking audience to a number of factors, including:
The reunification of all cycling disciplines at a single event for the first time since 2013.
The strong performance of European athletes, who won 30 of the 44 medals awarded.
The exciting and competitive racing, with many close finishes and surprises.
The excellent coverage of the event by broadcasters around the world.
The UCI President, David Lappartient, said that the record-breaking audience was a testament to the growing popularity of cycling.

“Cycling is a sport that is loved by people of all ages and backgrounds all over the world,” Lappartient said. “The success of the Glasgow World Championships shows that there is a huge appetite for cycling at the highest level.”
The Glasgow World Championships were also a success on social media, with over 100 million views of the event’s content on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
