2023 Tour of Chongming: Mylène de Zoete wins the first stage

The Chinese rider from the Liv Racing Xstra team won the first stage of the Tour de l’île Chongming, a 120.4 km race from the city of Chongming to the town of Qidong. de Zoete finished ahead of Chloe Hosking (Canyon-SRAM Racing) and Chiara Consonni (Valcar-Travel & Service).

The race was relatively uneventful until the final 10 km, when a group of riders broke away from the peloton. de Zoete was part of this group, and she attacked with about 500 meters to go. She was able to hold off her rivals to take the victory.

This is de Zoete’s second victory of the season, and her first in a WorldTour race. She is currently second in the overall classification of the Tour de l’île Chongming, behind Hosking.

2023 Tour of Chongming: first stage

The race started at a fast pace, with several riders trying to break away from the peloton. However, the peloton remained together for the first 100 km of the race.

With about 20 km to go, a group of riders managed to escape from the peloton. This group included de Zoete, Hosking, Consonni, and several other riders.

The breakaway group worked well together and was able to open up a gap of about 30 seconds over the peloton. However, the peloton was closing in on the breakaway group in the final kilometers of the race.

With about 500 meters to go, de Zoete attacked. She was able to open up a gap of about 10 meters over her rivals. de Zoete held on to her lead to take the victory.

Hosking finished second, and Consonni finished third. The rest of the breakaway group was caught by the peloton just before the finish line.

This is de Zoete’s second victory of the season, and her first in a WorldTour race. She is currently second in the overall classification of the Tour de l’île Chongming, behind Hosking.
